GreenSeas has secured a grant from the Coastal Communities Fund (CCF) to undertake a 2-year pilot project in the Milford Haven waterway which will look at addressing the excess seaweed issue. Agricultural and development activities around the waterway lead to nutrient levels in the water which causes excess seaweed growth, or algal blooms.
The pilot project will use a bespoke vessel to remove a proportion of the seaweed material, which will then be processed and used to produce a commercial fertiliser product. The project will benefit the marine environment, and produce sustainable products.
GreenSeas previously secured grants from the Sustainable Development Fund and LEADER to carry out feasibility studies and market assessments that were used to develop the project.
